What you should know

  • Hearing aids aren't automatically replaced when the five-year replacement period ends. You must show that they need to be replaced.

  • This program covers hearing aids that meet your basic hearing needs in the most cost-effective way. The maximum payable per hearing aid is $1,000.

  • You must use a New Brunswick supplier unless the equipment or service is not available here.

  • Hearing aids are payable once every five years.

  • Repairs are eligible as required once the manufacturer's warranty expires.

  • Ear moulds are covered once a year for adults.

  • Disposable batteries are covered, upon request, once every twelve months, up to a maximum benefit of $200 per hearing aid.

  • To be eligible for full benefits, you must not have other medical coverage. If you have coverage for a hearing aid but would be in financial hardship to cover the co-pay, this program may help cover the difference. The hearing aid must meet program criteria and cost no more than $1,000.

How Do I Apply Steps

You book a hearing test

Make an appointment with an audiologist to assess your hearing loss. The audiologist may work at a hospital or a hearing aid supplier.

You receive your assessment report

The audiologist will give you your report or send it directly to a hearing aid supplier (if they don't work for a supplier).

Your supplier submits a request

The hearing aid supplier will send a request for approval and all necessary documents to Health Services.

Health Services reviews the request

Health Services will assess your request. If it is approved, they will notify your supplier.

You receive your hearing aid

The supplier will contact you to arrange for your hearing aid. The hearing aid supplier will bill Health Services directly.
