Independent Facilitation helps people with disabilities build a plan to access supports through the Disability Support Program (DSP) and/or services in the community to address unmet needs.
You can access Independent Facilitation in two ways: call Inclusion NB directly at 1-866-622-2548 or call the Department of Social Development at 1-833-733-7835. You can self-refer for Independent Facilitation, or social workers, doctors, friends and family members can make a third-party referral to Inclusion NB.
Within a couple of days of the initial call, an Inclusion NB independent facilitator from your region will call you to set up an in-person meeting to start the process of completing a plan to access supports.
You will meet with the independent facilitator several times over two to six months so they can get to know you and help you to develop a support plan, which may include an application to DSP. The facilitator will ask questions about your history, disability, hopes for the future, barriers to achieving your goals and ways to address your unmet needs. You will be required to sign a consent form, which will be provided by the facilitator.
Once your application for DSP is approved, a social worker from the Department of Social Development will oversee your plan to ensure it continues to address your needs.
