Does your child need specific feeding supplies and formulas not covered by New Brunswick Medicare?
The Government of New Brunswick’s Therapeutic Nutrients Programs support the special dietary needs of infants and children. These programs provide coverage for specific feeding supplies and formulas for children 18 and under not covered by New Brunswick Medicare.
Dietary supplements are provided when there is a medical justification. These programs and benefits are not intended to alleviate food security.
These programs do not cover:
- Any supplies not directly related to the feeding need
- Toothettes
- Laxatives and stool softeners
- Baby wipes
- Medication (prescription or over-the-counter) delivered through the feeding tube
- Syringes (with or without needles) used for medications
Each of the above programs has its own referral process. Please refer to individual programs for application information.
Your child may qualify for a Therapeutic Nutrients Program if they have a medical condition that prevents them from getting adequate daily nutrition by eating real food alone.
Some Therapeutic Nutrients Programs are offered by the Department of Social Development and are intended for its clients and all low-income families. Others are provided by the Department of Health and do not have income requirements. Read below for specific information on each program and benefit, including who qualifies and how to apply.
In most cases, you are not eligible for full benefits if you have other medical coverage.
