If so, the Nursing Home Without Wall Program can help. They help older adults who are living in the community and their caregivers access health and social services to support aging at home.
Services offered through the Nursing Home Without Walls program could include:
- Help navigating and accessing other programs and services.
- Friendly check-in calls and in-person social visits.
- Transportation to things like social outings, appointments, etc., using a nursing home’s minibus.
- Use of a nursing home’s bath facilities and specialized equipment.
- Intergenerational activities (when people of different ages, like kids, adults, and seniors, get together to have fun or learn new things together).
The Nursing Home Without Walls Program is offered by some nursing homes in the province. Each program offers unique services based on community needs, and their resources. This service is free.
The Nursing Home Without Walls program aims to help you:
- Socialize with others,
- Prevent loneliness,
- Learn about health-related issues and,
- Access services and information.
You are eligible to participate in the Nursing Home Without Walls Program if you:
- Live in New Brunswick
- Are an older adult (generally 60 years or older)
- Are living in the community (you are not living in a long-term care home)
Locate a Nursing Home Without Walls program in your area.
The Department of Social Development has list of Nursing Home Without Walls programs that have a contract with the department. All Nursing Home Without Walls programs that have a contract with the Department of Social Development are required to follow a service agreement.
When you contact a Nursing Home Without Walls program, they will ask you to provide:
Basic information about yourself, and
Information that can help them understand what supports you need to stay in your home.
