About (Long Description)

Do you have a disability and find it challenging to get around your community?

The disabled parking permit gives you better options for parking when you’re out and about in your community. The provincial government gives out blue parking passes, which show the international wheelchair symbol of access, free of charge to individuals with a disability.

Permit holders can use the accessible parking passes for any vehicle they are travelling in.

There are two types of disabled parking permits:

  1. Permanent - renewable after five years and is for people with a long-term disability.
  2. Temporary - valid for up to five years and is for people who have a temporary condition, such as a broken leg.
Who Qualifies?

You may be eligible for a disabled parking permit if you have:

  • A disability that limits your mobility so that you can’t walk more than 50 metres without using a wheelchair, crutch, walker or other assistive device.
  • A severe respiratory and/or cardiac condition that gives you serious shortness of breath and/or pain after minimal physical activity.
  • A significant visual impairment.
  • A temporary condition that limits your ability to get around.

Companies and organizations such as long-term care facilities that provide transportation service to people with a disability on a regular basis may also apply for a blue parking pass. In this case, a company representative visits a Service New Brunswick Centre and a customer service representative reviews the application. If successful, Service New Brunswick issues a permit in the company’s name.
