Do you need home healthcare support?
The Extra-Mural Program is here to help. They provide home healthcare services for New Brunswickers of all ages in the comfort of their own homes. They also provide services to residents of special care homes and nursing homes.
The Extra-Mural team will work with you and/or, your family, caregivers, and care providers, to provide you with the healthcare you need. They will also connect you with the community resources you need to continue living at home.
The Extra-Mural Program provides home health services to New Brunswickers of all ages with a wide range of illnesses, injuries, chronic (long term) conditions and palliative (end of life) care needs.
The Extra-Mural Program can help if you:
- Need help monitoring and managing a chronic disease. For example: arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, dementia.
- Have had many hospitalizations and/or emergency room visits.
- Are experiencing falls.
- Are on many medications and need help understanding when and how to take them.
- Need care after surgery or an injury.
- Are having trouble with activities like, bathing, dressing, and/or walking because of your health condition.
- Need information to help organize your healthcare needs and services.
- Need end-of-life care at home.
You may qualify for the Extra-Mural Program if you:
- Are a New Brunswick resident.
- Have a valid NB Medicare Card, or you are getting one.
- Have a healthcare need that the Extra-Mural Program can help with.
- Have a need that requires healthcare services in a private home, special care home or nursing home.
- Have a home that is safe for the service to be provided.
- Have a willingness to receive services.
It's easy to apply for the Extra-Mural Program:

You can refer yourself, or with your consent, family, friends, or a care provider can also make a referral on your behalf.

The Extra-Mural Program care team will assess your needs and notify your doctor or nurse practitioner after the assessment takes place.
