Are you a renter in New Brunswick? Do you need help accessing affordable, safe, and adequate housing? Do you want to learn about your rights and responsibilities as a renter?
If so, Housing NB (HNB) offers programs and benefits that may be able to help. They oversee and maintain housing programs and initiatives in New Brunswick.
Below is a summary of the rent related programs and benefits that Housing NB offers:
Help with rent
Public housing and rent supplement programs
Housing NB helps New Brunswickers with the cost of rent in two ways:
- Providing a variety of affordable rental units owned by Housing NB, and
- Providing rental subsidies to private landlords to help New Brunswickers afford rental housing.
Generally, the amount of rent you pay in these subsidized rental units is 30% of your adjusted household income. This means that the amount you pay is adjusted based on the income, location, and composition of your household.
Accessibility
If you are living with a disability, you may qualify for a rent supplement that allows you the freedom to find housing that meets your needs. Some units already have accessibility features like ramps, elevators, and strobe-light smoke detectors.

Canada Housing Benefit
This benefit helps New Brunswickers who work part-time or at lower-paying jobs who are struggling to afford rent. People have increased costs for shelter, food, clothing and transportation due to the rising cost of living. This benefit provides help with rent so participants can focus on these additional costs and attempt to increase their income.
