About

This program provides coverage to buy and maintain hearing aids. It covers:

  • Behind the Ear (BTE), In the Ear (ITE) and In the Canal (ITC) hearing aids
  • Repairs and ear moulds

This program does not cover:

  • BAHA hearing aids
  • Personal FM systems
  • Cochlear implants
  • Hearing aids for cochlear implants
  • Batteries for hearing aids or cochlear implants
  • Hooks, filters or tubing
  • Convenience options such as T-coil, directional microphone, etc.
  • Cleaning/drying
  • Pocket Talkers
  • Hearing tests or evaluations

Please note:

  • Hearing aids aren’t automatically replaced once the time restriction expires. You must show that it needs to be replaced.
  • This program covers hearing aids that meet your basic hearing needs most cost-effectively. The maximum payable per hearing aid is $1,000.
  • You must use a New Brunswick supplier unless the equipment or service is not available here.
  • Hearing aids are payable once every five years.
  • Repairs are eligible as required once the manufacturer’s warranty expires.
  • Ear moulds are paid once a year for adults.
  • To be eligible for full benefits, you must not have other medical coverage. If you have coverage for a hearing aid but would be in financial hardship to cover the co-pay, this program may help cover the difference. The hearing aid must meet program criteria and not cost more than the maximum of $1,000.

For more details, see the Hearing Aid Policy.

How Do I Apply Steps

Make an appointment with an audiologist to assess your hearing loss. The audiologist may work at the hospital or a hearing aid supplier.

The audiologist will give you your report or send it directly to a hearing aid supplier (if they don’t work for a supplier).

The hearing aid supplier will send a request for approval and all the necessary documents to Health Services.

Health Services will assess your request. If it is approved, they will notify your supplier.

The supplier will contact you to make arrangements to provide your hearing aid. The hearing aid supplier will bill Health Services directly.
