About
This program pays for specific prosthetic services, including:
- Limb prostheses (arm, leg, foot)
- Artificial larynx (Servox device, voice prostheses)
- Ocular prostheses (artificial eye)
- Breast prostheses and one bra
- Modifications and repairs
This program does not cover:
- Myo-electric prostheses
- Microprocessor prostheses
Please note:
- Prosthetic limbs are payable once every five years.
- Artificial larynxes and artificial eyes are eligible every three years.
- Breast prostheses and bras are eligible once every two years.
- Modifications and repairs are considered as needed.

To apply for a limb prosthesis:
- Get a referral from your doctor or nurse practitioner to a prosthetist.
- At your appointment, the prosthetist will determine which prosthesis you need. They will send the appropriate form and the prescription from your medical professional to Health Services to request approval.
- Health Services will review your request to determine eligibility.
- If it is approved, Health Services will advise the prosthetist, who will contact you to provide the prosthesis. The prosthetist will bill Health Services directly.
To apply for a voice prosthesis:
- Make an appointment with your speech-language pathologist.
- The SLP will prescribe the voice prosthesis you need and will send the details, along with a quote, to Health Services for approval.
- Health Services will review your request to determine eligibility.
- If approved, Health Services will advise your SLP, who will contact you and provide the prosthesis. The prosthetist will bill Health Services directly.
To apply for an ocular prosthesis:
- Get a prescription from an ophthalmologist. They will give it to you to take to an ocularist or send it to the ocularist on your behalf.
- The ocularist will send a quote and the ophthalmologist’s prescription to Health Services to request approval.
- Health Services will assess the request and advise the ocularist of their decision.
- If it is approved, the ocularist will give you your ocular prosthesis. They will bill Health Services directly.
How Do I Apply Steps
Get a prescription from a doctor or nurse practitioner.
Take your prescription to a pharmacy or medical supplier with someone trained in fitting breast prostheses. They will determine the best prosthesis for you.
The pharmacy/medical supplier will send the prescription and a quote to Health Services to request approval.
If it is approved, the supplier will give you your breast prosthesis and bill Health Services directly.
