About

Social Inclusion helps people with an intellectual and/or developmental disability become more independent and involved in their community.

How Do I Apply Steps

You can call NBACL at 1-866-622-2548 or one of its regional offices. For a list of locations, click here. An NBACL administrator will take your information and ask questions about what type of support you’re looking for. You can self-refer for Social Inclusion, or social workers, doctors, friends and family members can make a third-party referral on your behalf.

Within two business days, a Social Inclusion coordinator or facilitator will call you. They will ask you questions, including about the nature of your disability, age, supports you currently have and barriers. The coordinator or facilitator will set up an in-person meeting to further explain the program, gather information and determine next planning steps.

You will meet with a Social Inclusion coordinator or facilitator, and be required to sign a consent form to start the process. Over the course of several meetings, the coordinator or facilitator will help you identify ways to develop more connections in your community, strengthen unpaid supports (including family, friends and members of community groups) or plan for a home of your own. Social Inclusion offers long-term support and planning if required to help you stay involved in your community, maintain living arrangements and offer support in different stages of life.
